Xiaomi is currently the number one smartphone manufacturer in China, and it has been that way for quite some time now. The company has taken the number one spot last year and has held onto it ever since then. Xiaomi has announced quite a few smartphones and other tech gadgets this year already, but everyone is waiting for them to release their new flagship, the Mi 5. The Xiaomi Mi 5 has leaked a number of times this year, and according to the latest available info, this device will launch in November, which makes sense because the company announced their Mi Note flagships back in January. That’s not the only info that came our way recently, in addition to the release month of the device, the leak also said that the Mi 5 will be powered by the yet-unreleased Snapdragon 820 SoC, sport a 5.2-inch QuadHD (2560 x 1440) display and feature a 20.7 and 2-megapixel megapixel shooter on its back and front, respectively.
That being said, a new rumors surfaced in China confirming some of that info. According to the new rumor, the Mi 5 will indeed be powered by the Snapdragon 820, but that’s not all. The source says that the Snapdragon 820 will be manufactured using a 14nm process, just like the Exynos 7420 which powers on Samsung’s newest Galaxy S6 flagships. This sounds really interesting, especially if the Snapdragon 820 truly ends up being built using the 14nm process. It remains to be seen how accurate this info is though, it’s just a rumor at this point, so take it with a pinch of salt, as usual. Until we wait for more info, let’s take a look at other Mi 5 aspects, other specifications that the device might include and what not.
The Mi 4 was Xiaomi’s 2014 flagship, and it’s still a quite capable device, but if rumors are accurate, the Mi 5 will be a significant upgrade. It will sport a slightly bigger display which will offer a significantly higher resolution, not to mention that it will feature a much more powerful processor. This handset will quite probably ship with Android Lollipop, though we don’t know which version exactly will Xiaomi pre-install on it. The company’s MIUI OS will be installed on top of Google’s OS, of course. The Mi 5 will be made out of metal and offer 4G LTE connectivity.
