Samsung Galaxy A8 With 5.5-Inch Display Listed Online

Samsung is looking to freshen up its existing line of smartphones with few new Galaxy A handsets. According to the reports, the company will soon launch three new handsets – Galaxy A6, Galaxy A8, and Galaxy A9. While there’s not much info on the Galaxy A7 and A9 handsets, leaked reports about the Galaxy A8 device points out that the smartphone will sport a 5.5-inch Full-HD display with 1080 x 1920 pixels screen resolution, a 1.4 GHz Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, Adreno 405 GPU, 2 GB RAM and 16 GB onboard memory. Hence, earlier reports of the Galaxy A8 featuring a 5.7-inch display have been dismissed. The device also includes a 16 MP rear camera with autofocus and flash, and a secondary front-facing 5 MP lens. It offers 4G LTE support and comes with a 3050 mAh battery. The metallic finish of the handset adds to its premium feel and will give it a fighting chance against similar feature-rich handsets.

The device was recently dispatched for tests in India under the codename MS-A8000 and can be spotted on GFXBench, where it appeared for tests on May 9. The device tested worked on Android v5.1.1 Lollipop OS (underneath the company’s own TouchWiz UI) and hence, it is reasonable to believe that the South Korean tech giant will soon bring out the handset, although there’s still no word about the launch of the smartphone from the company’s end.

It is needless to say that the A8 is an improved version of the A7, as it offers a faster processor, a better display with higher resolution and an improved camera. While initially it was believed that the Samsung Galaxy A8 would only be launched in China (and perhaps in South Korea), now there are confirmed reports that the handset will be available in various markets in Asia and Europe as well. Having said that, there’s still some time before it finally makes its way out, since the handset is yet to receive relevant certificates and hence, Samsung may unveil the product sometime in the summer, at the earliest.
