Over the last year, there has been a massive number of new platforms landing within the android sphere. One of the platforms which is not exactly a new platform but did see a massive increase in its availability in 2014, was that of virtual reality. Of course, from the android perspective, the biggest push for virtual reality came from Samsung with the launch of their Samsung Gear VR. Although, Google’s much cheaper and homemade style Cardboard seemed to be just as headline grabbing.
Since the release of both Google’s and Samsung’s takes on virtual reality, there has been a number of other companies including the likes of LG and HTC also getting in on the action. That said, it seems Samsung are still the manufacturer making the biggest inroads and pushes to bring the platform to the market. In fact, the latest from Samsung is that the South Korean tech giant is planning on hosting a developer workshop next week. The primary focus of the workshop will be to help developers get a better understanding of the Gear VR platform, with an ultimate view to developing games and apps for the Gear VR. In terms of who the workshop is aimed towards and who should consider attending, the workshop sign-up page (source link below) states “App or Game developers with no previous Gear VR experience but with experience creating applications and projects using Android and/or Unity“.
For those interested in the workshop, then it is scheduled to take place on Wednesday May 20th. The workshop will be live from 12pm to 2.30 (PDT) and will be held in the company’s Developer Connection office in Mountain View. Although, the Gear VR is completely dependent on using a Galaxy Note 4, neither will be needed for developers to take part in the workshop. It seems Samsung will be providing both for developers who attend the workshop to use during the workshop. Although, you will have to bring your own laptop. Lastly, it is worth pointing out that the workshop is free. If you are interested in attending, finding out more or signing up, then you can by clicking the source link below.
