Sponsored App Review: Rocket VPN – Internet Freedom

Rocket VPN is an Android app that offers users the ability to stay safe and secure online, while also unlocking content that might have been geographically locked to them. It offers 500MB of free bandwidth and servers dotted all over the globe, allowing those in Europe to access US content as well as many other combinations. A VPN is great to keep your online information safe as well, as it hides your actual IP and transfers all data securely using encryption. Rocket VPN also offers a monthly, unlimited bandwidth package that people can trial for free for 7 days. Let’s take a closer look at Rocket VPN.

Firstly, you’ll need to download Rocket VPN from the Play Store. From there, you’ll be able to get started.

To connect to a country outside of your own, you just need to scroll down and find a virtual location box with the ability to choose from a pretty decent offering of countries.

As with all VPN apps, you need to understand that you’ll be piping all of your info through their servers, so make sure you’re comfortable with that before going on.

During my testing, I found that Rocket VPN didn’t really work very well over WiFi at all. Google still remained that I was connecting from the UK and no sites redirected to me a Swedish site (I was masquerading as a Swedish surfer) however, when I tried over mobile data, it definitely worked:

With only 500MB free, you’ll quickly start to fill that up with just general browsing, and even quicker if you intend to stream video from other parts of the globe.

You can of course sign up for unlimited bandwidth for a small fee each month, or just give it a trial for a week.

VPN apps have become extremely popular over the last few years, and it’s no surprise. There are hackers out there all the time trying to snatch up data, and big bad publishers keep their content locked away inside of their borders. As such, a VPN is a great way of getting access to content that you might not otherwise be able to, and it also keeps your information nice and secure, too. I was disappointed to see that Rocket VPN didn’t seem to work all that well over WiFi, whether or not that’s my network I’m unsure of, but it worked just as advertised over mobile data. You might only get 500MB of data, but the fee for an unlimited subscription really isn’t that high, and I’m sure many will be willing to pay a small fee to access all of those different servers.

Ratings

  • Speed (4/5) – I didn’t notice any slowdowns or anything like that while using Rocket VPN.
  • Features (4/5) – With a decent selection of nations on offer, there’s a lot to like about Rocket VPN and it’s all nice and easy to use.
  • Theme (4/5) – The Material Design theme is great, and it blends in nicely with the latest versions of Android.
  • Overall (4/5) – With a solid selection of key VPN features, Rocket VPN is a fairly decent option, it’s just a shame that it doesn’t seem to work reliably over WiFi.

Pros

  • Easy to get set up with, just a few taps to get connected with a VPN.
  • Works well on smartphones as well as tablets.
  • Lots of different countries all over the world to connect from.
  • Unlimited subscription isn’t too pricey and there’s a free trial available, too.

Cons

  • Didn’t seem to work reliably over WiFi for me.
  • Might not be a safe bet for users that aren’t too technical.

Overall, Rocket VPN is a neat little VPN app that gets the job done, and it doesn’t require much effort on the user’s end. I wish that it worked better over WiFi, but apart from a few niggles here and there, it definitely worked for me and it was speedy, too. If you need a VPN, love material design and don’t mind paying a small monthly fee for unlimited usage, then Rocket VPN should do the job.
