Over the last year, there has been many interesting and novel smartphones landing in the market. There was of course they debut smartphone from OnePlus, the OnePlus One that caused a stir and looked to shake up the market with its high spec, cheap price status. Then, more recently, there has been the allure of the sleek doubles sided curves of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. That said, one device which has been increasingly generating attention over the last year is the follow-up to the YotaPhone, the aptly named YotaPhone 2. Those who already know of the device, will immediately be aware that the biggest selling point of the YotaPhone 2 is its use of both sides of the device as two displays. One side assuming the more traditional based display consisting of a 5-inch AMOLED display. While the other side (formally known as ‘the back’) adopting a 4.7-inch E-ink display. Since, the YotaPhone 2 was unveiled at a press event back in December, the attention of the device has increasingly grown. More recently, the YotaPhone 2 has now become available, although its availability is limited to twenty countries, with the U.S. not being one of them.
Well, back in March of this year, the company did announce their intention to bring their double sided smartphone to the U.S. and stated that this would probably happen via an Indiegogo campaign. Well, following on from this point, Yota has today announced the launch of the Indiegogo campaign to bring the device to North America. The campaign looks to secure $50,000 in funding which YotaPhone state will help “to pay for the necessary certifications and regulatory fees required to launch in North America“. By registering early support and helping to secure the funding, backers will be able to secure their own YotaPhone for as little as $500. Which works out to be $100 off of the MSRP. In addition, backers will be able to pick up a Yota Wireless Power bank for $50 to ensure they always have their device fully charged.
Of course, the double sided screen is only one of the features on offer with the YotaPhone 2. In addition, the device comes with 2GB RAM and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 Quad-core processor. Not to mention the device also comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera, 32GB internal storage, wireless charging, Qualcomm Fast Charge 2.0 support and the device is already scheduled to receive the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update in the coming months.
