YU is a Micromax-owned Indian company which has released the much talked about Cyanogen-powered Yureka handset back in January. The company has been teasing the arrival of their second handset called Yureka for quite some time now, and they’ve finally announced it today. We’ve already covered the initial announcement of this extremely affordable device, and are here to take a closer look at what it has to offer in terms of specifications. Anyhow, let’s get started.
The YU Yuphoria features a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720, 294ppi) fully laminated IPS display (with Gorilla Glass 3 on top of it) along with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 16GB of internal storage. This handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz which ships with an Adreno 306 GPU for graphics. The handset sports an 8-megapixel camera on its back (f/2.2 aperture) and the LED flash is placed around the camera sensor (round shape). The 5-megapixel snapper (4P lens, 85-degree wide-angle lens) is located on the phone’s front side and a 2,230mAh battery is also a part of this package. Speaking of battery, it supports ‘Quick Charge 1.0’, which means you’ll be able to charge it from 0% all the way to 65% in 45 minutes. The Yu Yuphoria ships with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop pre-installed and Cyanogen OS 12 is installed on top of Google’s operating system.
The Yu Yuphoria is actually made out of metal, which is really interesting considering its price. Speaking of the price, this handset costs only Rs. 6,999 in India, which translates to $109. The handset does offer dual SIM and 4G LTE connectivity, and it is available in Buffed Steel and Champagne Gold color options. The Yuphoria measures 142.38 x 72.96 x 8.2mm and weighs 170 grams. This handset also offers a full range of sensors that you’d usually find in a smartphone, not to mention that you also get a Pure Wolfson Sound and AAC speakers as part of this package. The design of the Yuphoria, as you can see, is quite understated and industrial. It doesn’t have any capacitive buttons, but you will find the usual on-screen buttons on there which you can customize, of course.
