While Huawei has steadily become known as a company capable of releasing quality devices without massive price tags, there are a few things that the company needs to work on. One of those is definitely their update strategy when it comes to keeping up with the latest version of Android. While devices like the Huawei P8 have launched with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, other devices are waiting for their updates to the version of Android that was launched at the end of 2014. LG and Motorola were first to jump on the Lollipop update wagon, with Samsung and then Sony following behind. Huawei however, still has a lot of their work cut out for them.
The Ascend Mate 7, a device with a somewhat confusing 6-inch display, Huawei’s own octa-core CPU, 2GB of RAM and expandable storage, was launched not too long ago. However, the device launched with Android 4.4 KitKat, a version of Android that hit phones as early as the end of 2013. It’s understandable that people are beginning to grow tired waiting for Huawei to update their devices to Lollipop, however they are making progress like giving users the option to test Lollipop on the Ascend Mate 2. Now, a leaked video appears to show Android 5.1 Lollipop, an improved version of the new OS, running on the Ascend Mate 7.
The leaked video, which appears to be of a device running a Portuguese language, shows Android 5.1 running on the Mate 7, at least that’s what the settings page show quite clearly, anyway. According to AndroidGeek.pt, this update was provided to them by Huawei, but we can’t exactly verify that. This is also apparently an Alpha version of the Android 5.1 update, and there could still be quite a wait for those looking to test out Android 5.1 themselves. Recently, Huawei has made a push into the US with the release of the P8 Lite, and if there’s on thing that American customers expect these days, it’s timely software updates. As such, we hope that this will help turn their views on updates around and that Huawei will keep their devices up-to-date for longer.
