LG announced the LG G Stylo back in April as a 5.7-inch mid-range smartphone with a stylus…5.7-inches and a stylus…Galaxy Note 4 territory, but that is where the similarities end. The G Stylo went to Boost Mobile first, but has now finally made its way onto Sprint’s network, both as a postpaid and prepaid device. The Sprint Prepaid has the G Stylo for $199 outright purchase – no contract or monthly payments are required. Regular Sprint customers can purchase the G Stylo for $288 as an outright purchase, $49 if you sign a two-year contract or $12 a month for 24 months on Sprint Easy Pay. It should eventually find its way to T-Mobile, MetroPCS and possibly even Virgin Mobile.
With the debut of their flagship, the LG G4, the LG G Stylo will garner little real attention in the smartphone world, but it does give users that want a large display and a stylus, but do not want to part with $700 for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The overall dimensions are 154.3 x 79.2 x 9.6mm and it weighs in at 163 grams. It has some decent specifications for its low cost…for starters, there is a 5.7-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, which breaks down to about 258 pixels-per-inch (PPI). The processor is a capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core clocked at 1.2GHz with an Adreno 306 GPU for graphics. It comes with only 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, with room for expansion via a microSD card.
The LG G Stylus sports a 13MP main camera and keeps LG’s Laser Autofocus and LED flash and based on our review, the photo quality is pretty good. There is a large 5MP front-facing camera (FFC) for social media selfies and video chatting. Powering the device is a removable 3000mAh and with plenty of power to get this 720p, quad-core device easily through a day or more. It has a speaker in the back, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC capability, an FM Radio and a microUSB port for charging and data transfer. What really sets this apart from other mid-range devices is the Enhanced Stylus Pen and QuickMemo+. There is a silo on the LG G Stylo to carry the S-Pen with you for those quick notes or if you feel inspired to draw or edit your pictures. It also has many of the great software features from the LG G4, is running the latest Android Lollipop 5.0, and comes in black.
