The South Korean telecommunications and Mobile phone operator controlled by the LG Group- LG Uplus Corporation or LG U+ is one of the country’s largest chaebol. The formerly know LG Telecom was one of the first companies to launch a commercial 3G service using PCS technology. In July 2013, LG U+ launched LTE-A service and introduced Galaxy S4 LTE-A, the world’s first 100% LTE smart mobile phone that can utilize data, voice and text with LTE and not fall back to CDMA. From then onwards, LG U+ has worked to better the speed, this time set to make a huge attempt!
LG U+ announced on June 21 that it will commercialize GIGA multi pass. This will provide up to .17 Gbps of speed, by combining LTE and Wi-Fi. With a vision of transmitting data with a speed of over 2Gbps, the company plans to double the speed. This 2 Gbps connection would not only allow the users to download an HD movie, about 1.4 GB of data, in six seconds, or a UHD movie, about 18 Gb of data, in one minute and 12 seconds, but also better the downloading speed in the case of sound sources( about 5 Mb). One second will be the maximum time required for downloading 50 songs. One Second!Besides this, LG U+ has worked out to incorporate 4—4 MIMO technology in the Wi-Fi band. This technology increases the number of antennas transmitting and receiving one Wi-Fi signal, so the GIGA Wi-Fi AP can transmit data to several users, consequently causing the doubling the GIGA Wi-Fi speed to a theoretical maximum of 866 Mbps.
In order to increase the LTE speed by 30 percent, the company plans to complete the testing of downlink 256 qam technology this month and commercializing it by the third quarter. This technology, when applied to the 3-band CA service, can boost the downloading speed upto 390 Mbps. Developing large capacity IP packet exchange device besides having completed testing of a virtualized Radio Access Network and a BS virtualization technology as an innovation which enables dealing with twice the data traffic, the company is all set to break all the speed limits. Moreover, LG U+ also developed a 4 Tb L3 switch (an exchanger for massive IP packet) along with UBIQUOSS. This can make the delivery of about 3,000 HD movies simultaneously per second when it is used on a network.
vRAN which is paving the path for 5G technology not only optimizes network performance, but also enables more value-add RAN-aware services. It boosts the base stations’ traffic management capacity, which, by connecting the base station and the Internet network in virtualization, can freely control the capacity for traffic according to the circumstances. With such extensive strategies, the company is clearly all set to break all the speed limits, creating a new milestone in terms of speed.
