Nest Cam Makes Appearance on Best Buy's Site

Today, Nest is scheduled to have an announcement at 1pm ET, 10am PT to announce some new devices. One being the Nest Cam that was leaked last week. It has now made an appearance on Best Buy’s website. The Nest Cam, looks exactly as it did in the previous leaks and now it looks like the price will be $199. You can check out Best Buy’s tweet at the source links below.

Nest was purchased by Google not to long ago. Shortly after Motorola was sold off to Lenovo. Everyone believed that Nest would be making Google’s hardware for the Nexus line as well as possibly Chromebooks. However that hasn’t happened yet. This will be Nest’s first product release since becoming part of Google. And it appears that Google’s plan with Nest is to bring back Android@Home which they showed off at Google I/O a few years back.

This year at Google I/O the company did introduce Brillo, but didn’t say much else about it. Brillo is supposedly going to be Google’s platform to bring connected home devices altogether on one platform that is not tied to one mobile platform. As there are many connected home devices out there currently, and some work with iPhones, some work with Android. Not a whole lot work with both. Google is aiming to solve that. And it looks like they are putting Nest’s products on the platform first before other manufacturers jump in.

The Nest Cam is available on Best Buy’s site right now and can be ordered. No pre-orders here, it seems. The full model number for this product is the NC1102ES. It will record 1080p video at 30 frames per second. So you’re actually getting some pretty good video out of this surveillance camera. With the Nest Cam, you can also choose to post the video to the cloud, in addition to live streaming. Nest also includes wall mounting hardware. So you can mount these around your house or even outside to see who comes to the door before they even knock.

Their event is due to kick off shortly, so we should know more soon!
