Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 was full of exciting new tech, even though we haven’t seen that many smartphone OEMs make huge announcements, at least not as much as we’ve seen at MWC two months later. That being said, a lot of OEMs have announced rather interesting handsets, like Panasonic for example. This Japanese tech giant has announced their Lumix CM1 camera smartphone during the show, a device which look like a smartphone from the front, and a camera from the back. Well, we have some new info to share with you now, read on.
The Lumix CM1 was announced back in January, but wasn’t available in the market until now. The Lumix CM1 is now available for pre-order in the US for $999, which makes it quite pricey. You can pre-order the unlocked device at B&H and Adorama, but what do you get for that amount of money? Well, let’s see, shall we. The Panasonic Lumix CM1 feature a relatively mid-range specs, in ever aspect except the camera… the camera sensor is actually the reason why this smartphone costs as much. This handset features a 20-megapixel sensor on the back, f/2.8 aperture Leica DC Elmarit lens which is capable of shooting 4K video at 15FPS, while RAW image support is also included here. This lens really sounds great on paper, and such lens is used in some really solid digital cameras out there.
What about the rest of Lumix CM1 specs? Well, this device sports a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card up to 128GB). Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz powers this thing along with an Adreno 330 GPU. The 1.1-megapixel snapper is available up front, and this device will ship with a 2,600mAh battery on the inside. Android 4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed here with some additions from Panasonic, of course. The Lumix CM1 also offers 4G LTE connectivity (bands 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 20), and if you’re interested in purchasing this device, you might want to check out our hands-on coverage of this handset.
