We knew that Motorola was making an announcement the other day…we just never expected a complete new line of devices. Besides the new flagships, Motorola also introduced the third generation of the Moto G – the entry level 4G LTE device with specifications and a price that define the word affordable. Powered with the latest version of Android Lollipop, the Moto G falls in right around the $200 mark for off-contract pricing and $0 on a two-year deal. Bell and Virgin are selling it for $199.99 on a no-term. Koodo is asking $216 for a no-term and Telus is asking a high, $230 for a no-term.
The new Moto G shows just how good a $200 smartphone can be today – Motorola even included IPX7 certification for water resistance up to 1 meter for 30 minutes, active noise cancelation, and Lollipop 5.1.1. It includes a full metal frame for strength and the ability for the user to customize it with multi-colored backs, cases and Moto Maker. The new models from Motorola feature dual front-facing stereo speakers to give off some decent audio. It measures 142.1 x 72.4 x 11.6 mm and weighs in at 155 grams. Those features sound like they belong a higher-end device.
It comes with a 5-inch IPS LCD HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and about 294 pixels-per-inch. Motorola grabbed the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz. The Canadian model will pack 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage and the Moto G even allows for expansion via a microSD card slot up to an additional 32GB. Motorola is also offering a variation with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.
Even in their entry-level Moto G, Motorola was able to sneak in a 13MP main camera – the one used in the Nexus 6 – with a dual-tone LED flash, autofocus and a slew of options for photo taking. The front-facing camera (FFC) is an impressive 5MP with auto-HDR for great low light selfies and video chats. Providing the power to the Moto G is a non-removable 2470mAh battery and should provide you with service all day. It has the usual suspects – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, an FM radio and a microUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer.
