Yahoo’s widely popular News Digest app has been available to iOS users with an iPad since September 11th of 2014, and since then it’s gained quite a following having reached many downloads. It’s also been available for Android smartphones for quite some time, but there hasn’t been a proper version for Android tablets. That is, until today. In a blog post earlier this morning Yahoo announced that they have officially opened up compatibility for Yahoo News Digest to Android tablets, widening the scope of devices which can not only use it but also display the content in a format meant for their screen sizes.
This new Yahoo News Digest for Android tablets isn’t really a new app, to be clear. It’s the same Yahoo News Digest app which has been available, but now tablet owners can install it. The only change here is that users have the option of reading the content on a larger screen if they have both an Android smartphone and tablet. If you prefer reading on larger displays, Yahoo News Digest can now feed you the news summaries you’re interested in through your tablet screen with all the same features as the phone app. Content is updated twice daily just like before, so you’ll still get “need-to-know” news in the morning as well as in the evening.
For those that have never used the app before, content is actually built quite brilliantly using multiple sources to gather all of the relevant information and provide it to users in a series of key facts and summaries, making things easier to read while still being “in the know” on breaking stories, hot topics, and other top news stories from the day across a wide range of different categories including politics, world, U.S., business, entertainment and others. It also carries a material design style UI with hints of color here and there, which lends itself quite well to a tablet sized screen. If you like reading news on a daily basis to stay on top of things happening around the world, the app is free to use and you don’t have to set anything up as news is curated for the user. You can customize a few things like when the morning and evening digests are fed to you personally, but other than that it’s pretty much an open and start using immediately experience.
