After various leaks, we already knew what Motorola was going to offer in today’s event, its mid-range smartphone offering, the Moto G was the one that got the most leaks and now we know why, it was the biggest Moto G launch as the company highlighted that one of the features to make their phones great is the price at what they are selling. The original Moto G was indeed very well priced at the time it got released according to the features it offered and two generations after, that is still true, even as the upgrades don’t seem as significant, the specs are considered good for a phone that sells for that amount of money.
Out of the three phones announced today, the Moto G is the only one that is available starting today in more than 60 countries, so it was very clear that this phone was the star of the show. The overall design looks similar to the one of its predecessor, but there’s a new textured back and it’s offered in black or white color options as a standard. The display measures the same 5-inches and the HD resolution is also kept the same. Its processor is now the quad-core Snapdragon 410 clocked at 1.4 GHz and it finally comes with LTE connectivity in every version of the phone. There is an option with 8 GB of internal memory and 1 GB of RAM plus another version with 16 GB of internal storage and 2 GB of RAM, both have support for Micro SD cards for another 32 GB of extra storage. The cameras have been upgraded to a 13-megapixel one on the back, which is said to be the same sensor as the one of the Nexus 6 and there’s also a 5-megapixel one on the front. The company also highlighted the durability aspect, as the Moto G now has an IPX7 certification making it submergible in water.
In terms of customization, the company said that additional Shells will be sold separately and there are 10 color options, plus the Flip Shells will come in 5 additional colors. For the first time, users will be able to customize their Moto G through the company’s Moto Maker, so they can now choose the color of the back cover from 10 options, another 10 colors for the accents, the front color and they can even engrave their phone. The price of the 8 GB model is $179.99 and the 16 GB model starts at $219.99. Other retailers that will sell this phone are amazon.com and Best Buy will start selling it on August 2.
