HTC is not doing so well in terms of their smartphone sales even though their hardware designs and software have been praised for a while now. Still, the company seems to be trying to reach out to more users with their RE brand of accessories. They are currently showing off their VR headset called HTC Vive and they have their RE camera to offer more flexibility to those users who want more flexibility in their mobile photography. At the beginning of the year, the company announced their partnership with Under Armour, suggesting that they would create a wearable device targeted to those users concerned about their fitness.
That device materialized as a band called HTC RE Grip, it’s made from a breathable soft-touch waterproof material to make sure it is comfortable enough to be worn day and night as it can also monitor sleep. It includes a curved screen that can display relevant information about their trainings as well as notifications from their smartphone and it can also control some apps like the music player. It also has a GPS receiver, so users don’t need to carry their smartphone at all times and the information will be kept until it can transfer it using the UA Record app, which is compatible with Android and iOS devices.
When the fitness band was announced back in March it was said to be launched in Spring, but the season has already ended and there is still no word on the day it will become available. Now, it is being reported that a similar wearable device has been certified by the Bluetooth SIG. The document mentions that the band was created on March 4, which is very close to when the device was officially announced, so even though the document doesn’t explicitly mention the name of how the wearable became known, it seems logical to assume that it is the same device. Either way, the launch date may be a little closer now. Until then, the wait goes on to hear some official announcement from the company, although it is expected to launch in two different and very bright colors and priced around $199.
