The president of Motorola Mobility, Mr. Rick Osterloh, has seemingly indicated in a recent tweet, that speculations regarding the existence of two versions of the third generation Moto X may not be entirely unfounded. Through his tweet, Mr. Osterloh confirmed the launch event scheduled for July 28th, and seemed to indicate the impending launch of multiple devices, most of which have seen numerous leaks over the past several weeks, some arguably more reliable than others. The tweet in question is a fairly simple one, but speculations are centered on three letters in the tweet – ‘XGX’ – which are being interpreted in some quarters as a cryptic clue towards the launch of two Moto X variants along with the mid-range Moto G. The tweet from Mr. Osterloh simply reads, “Can’t wait for our launch event tomorrow. XGX!”
Thanks to several leaks over the past few weeks, we already have an idea about some of the hardware specifications of the upcoming Moto X. The device is rumored to come in two versions, and according to the latest leak from HelloMotoHK, the standard issue Moto X 2015 is expected to feature a 5.5-inch Full HD 1080p display panel, while the ‘Sport’ variant is said to feature a 5.2-inch 1080p panel. Neither variants will sport a QHD (2560 x 1440) display as was rumored earlier, if this latest leak is to be believed. The device is said to feature a 21-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel front-facing selfie-cam. The Moto X 2015 is also said to come with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop pre-installed, and have dual-SIM capabilities along with support for microSD cards. However, the one feature that has everybody talking is the supposed presence of a large 3,600 mAh battery on the device.
As for the Moto G 2015, the device is rumored to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset, which comes with an embedded 64-bit quad-core CPU clocked at a frequency of 1.4 GHz, and an Adreno 306 GPU clocked at 400 MHz. The smartphone will feature a 5-inch display which will come with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The device is said to come in two variants, with the cheaper one featuring 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage, whereas a pricier version is also said to be on the cards, which will come with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The device is set to feature a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera, and will have Android 5.1.1 Lollipop pre-installed.
