OnePlus news has been coming in thick and fast of late. Of course, much of this is to do with the next OnePlus flagship device, the OnePlus 2. While the specs announcements have been coming steadily, the real big news of the last week or so, was the official confirmation of when the OnePlus 2 will be unveiled. For those that missed it, the event is scheduled for July 27th at 7 pm PST (10 pm EST). While the news of the launch was the headlines piece, what did attract a decent amount of attention was the way in which the launch is scheduled to take place. In true OnePlus fashion, the company is looking to bring its users a different launch event and as such, announced that the event will take place in virtual reality (VR). Therefore, anyone with a VR viewer or headset will be able to join the event in a new and unique format.
Of course, your average consumer probably does not have a VR headset simply lying around the house. With that in mind, OnePlus also announced that they were going to offer their own version of Google Cardboard 2.0 in a OnePlus branded VR headset. What’s more, is that OnePlus are offering the VR headsets for free. The consumer only has to pay for the shipping. That said, at the time of announcing, the headsets were not available to order and there were no firm details as to when their availability would begin.
Well, that has now changed, as OnePlus have now confirmed today that the VR headsets will be able to be ordered from July 3rd. As mentioned, these are free and the only cost associated is the shipping. However, OnePlus do stipulate that these are limited in number and as such, those hoping to get one will probably need to act quickly. If you simply cannot wait, then OnePlus has also announced that they are holding one of their infamous contests in which they are giving away 1000 headsets. The contest is now open and will run until June 3rd. Those interesting in taking part will need to hit the source link below, comment, fill out a form and hope for the best. It’s worth adding, the contest headsets are completely free…shipping is paid for by OnePlus.
