Dual-screen smartphones are slowly becoming a thing it seems. Yotaphone has announced their first dual-screen device at the end of 2012, and the second-gen model followed in February last year. Yotaphone is not the only company that has announced such a device though, Siswoo has done so by announcing R9 Darkmoon handset earlier this year, and UMi will do the same really soon. All of these devices have one thing in common, on the front, they use a regular panel (be it IPS or AMOLED), and on the back of the phone lies an E-ink display.
That being said, it seems like Oukitel plans to join those three companies soon. According to the info our sources sent us, the company is working on the Oukitel U6 device which will have the similar setup to all the phones mentioned today. This device will reportedly feature a 5-inch display up front, and a 4.7-inch E-ink display on its back. The handset will be powered by MediaTek’s Helio X20 64-bit deca-core chip, the latest and greatest mobile processor introduced by that Taiwan-based company.
Our sources have also sent us a render of the aforementioned device, which you can check out above this article. The render quite clearly shows the upcoming Oukitel U6 handset, along with the E-ink display which is located on its back. We don’t have any more spec information at this moment, but if you take a closer look at the image, you’ll notice that the LED flash is located on the back (seems like a single-LED sensor), and the power button will be placed on the phone’s right-hand side. The volume rocker buttons seem to be separated on the left side of this phone, and by the looks of it, it seems like the device will also feature a metallic frame.
Considering this thing packs in a really powerful SoC, it is safe to assume we’re looking at a high-end smartphone here. It remains to be seen what will its internals look like, but we can expect it to sport 3 or 4GB of RAM and perhaps a 1080p display. This is just a guess on our part though, our sources didn’t mention anything aside from what we’ve mentioned above.
