Samsung Announces New Monitors with Qi Wireless Charging

Wireless charging is the future. Now if we could just get everyone to agree on one standard, we’d be alright. Right now there’s basically two known standards (there are many others that are not so well-known), and that’s PMA, and Qi. Many handsets we have out right now use Qi Wireless charging, including the Samsung Galaxy S6 and LG G4. We first really started seeing wireless charging with the Nexus 4 in 2012, and since then it’s started to catch on slowly, but surely.

Earlier this year, Ikea announced some new furniture that had Qi Wireless Charging embedded, and they are actually on sale now. They include side tables and lamps. Pretty cool concepts, if I say so myself. Now Samsung is starting to make some noise about Wireless charging. They just released a new monitor that also has a Qi Wireless charger in the stand itself. Which is actually a brilliant idea. Think about it. You are sitting at your desk, and you can just set your phone on the monitor stand and have it start charging. Pretty sweet, right? There’s also a LED light on the wireless charger, so you know whether or not your phone is charging. A pretty important feature, I’d say.

This is the Samsung SE370, and it comes in 23.6 or 27-inch displays. Both models feature a resolution of 1920×1080 along with 4ms response time. Samsung also has a 178 degree viewing angle, so the viewing angles should be pretty good. Samsung has also added a HDMI port, a DisplayPort and a D-Sub connector. There are a few other features included here like Game Mode, Eye Saver Mode and AMD FreeSync for reducing input latency on the monitor.

Samsung’s Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business, Seok-gi Kim stated “Technology should support, not interfere with, active lifestyles. Our customers increasingly rely on mobile devices to obtain information and interact with others; so by doing away with the clutter on their desks, we are helping them to use their mobile devices in a smarter way.”

So far, Samsung has not stated when the Samsung SE370 will start shipping, or how much these monitors will set you back when they do. However, we will be sure to let everyone know the pricing when Samsung announces it.
