Samsung officially announced their next big event for the year, Samsung Unpacked 15 which will happen next month on August 13th. This event is typically Samsung’s time for showing off their second flagship device for the year in the Note lineup of devices, and there’s a good chance this will be the launchpad for the Galaxy Note 5 instead of waiting till the Fall at IFA when Samsung usually shows off the next Galaxy Note successor. A statement from sources who might be apprised of event details told the WSJ that Samsung will also use Unpacked 15 to unveil the rumored Galaxy S6 Edge+ device, a slightly larger version of the flagship from earlier on in the year.
This isn’t the first time this rumor has come to light and many consumers have already been expecting to see the phone make an appearance. If it shows up though, some think that it may end up stealing the show from the Galaxy Note 5 which is likely to be the planned focal point. Samsung’s reasons for pushing up the launch date would be understandable, as they likely want to avoid being overshadowed by Apple’s Fall event to show off a new iPhone, but all that could be for naught if the Galaxy Note 5 takes a back seat to the Galaxy S6 Edge+.
Samsung had troubles with meeting customer demands for the Galaxy S6 Edge as they didn’t have enough material or devices due to the timing of the process to prepare the specially curved glass for the front display, so a revival of the device with a larger screen could be just what Samsung needs to breathe more life into the popularity. Along with these two devices, it’s also being rumored that Samsung may be looking to announce a new smartwatch which would be their first new smartwatch since the launch of the Gear S, although the company has still reportedly not reached a decision on whether or not to show it off. Samsung is poised to be launching their new mobile payments system in the near future as well, dubbed Samsung Pay, a competitor to Apple and Android Pay and could be a feature present on the new Smartwatch to help make mobile payments easier for consumers. With possibly three new devices coming in just as few weeks, Samsung fans will have much to mull over.
