At least three entry-level Android smartphone models from Samsung and HTC are slated to land on T-Mobile soon. All three devices will be priced under $200 without contract and will go on sale at T-Mobile from July 22nd. Two of the devices on offer will be from Samsung and one will be an HTC smartphone that was announced recently as part of HTC’s recent push towards gaining a presence at the lower end of the market after having largely stayed away from it in the past. The devices will launch only days after the uncarrier launched its new Family Plan which offers 4 lines for $120 per month, each with 10 GB of LTE data.
As for the smartphones, the most expensive one will be the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, which has already been on sale in emerging markets like India for a while now, and has only recently been made available on Sprint. The device will retail for $189 on T-Mobile without contract. As for the other Samsung device, it will be the Galaxy Core Prime, which has also been available in emerging markets for some time and has only recently started showing up in the US. The device has been available on both Sprint and Verizon since earlier this year. The device is the cheapest of the three on sale, and will retail for only $139. As for the HTC, the company recently announced four entry-level devices just the other day as part of its “Desire’ sub-brand it uses for entry and mid-range smartphones. The HTC Desire 626s is a part of that line-up, and will be offered by T-Mo for $169.
Coming to the hardware specifications of the devices, the Galaxy Grand Prime will feature a 5-inch qHD display, and will be powered by a Snapdragon 410 SoC. It will come with 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, along with an 8 megapixel primary camera and a 5 megapixel secondary camera. The device is currently on Android 4.4 KitKat, but is expected to be updated to Android Lollipop by Samsung. The other Samsung device in question, the Galaxy Core Prime will be an even more modest device, and will feature a 4.5-inch WVGA display. It will also be powered by the Snapdragon 410 and will come with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage. The primary camera will come with a 5 megapixel sensor while the secondary camera will be a 2 megapixel unit. This particular model has already received its Lollipop update internationally, having been launched with KitKat earlier this year. However, it isn’t immediately known which version of Android the Sprint edition will eventually launch with.
Coming to the final product on the list, the HTC Desire 626s will feature a 5-inch 720p display, and will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 210 SoC, which comes with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.1 GHz. The device will ship with 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage and will have an 8 megapixel camera on the rear and a 5 megapixel camera on the front. The battery is rated at 2,000 mAh, and the device will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop on-board. In the gallery below, the left-most image belongs to the Galaxy Grand Prime.
