Xiaomi is China’s number one smartphone OEM at the moment, and has been up there for quite some time now. This company doesn’t manufacture only smartphones though, they produce all kinds of smart gadgets, like smart TVs, smart scales, tablet, smartbands, etc. This China-based company is also into software, they’ve developed their Android-based OS a long time ago, and have been improving it ever since. Keep in mind that Xiaomi actually started off as an Android firmware developer, not as a hardware manufacturer. MIUI is currently in version 6, and it seems like the version 7 could be right around the corner, at least if the new rumor is to be believed, read on.
The MIUI 6.0 is actually based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, and as you all know, Android 5.1 Lollipop has been around for quite some time now, so it’s safe to assume that Xiaomi is working on the update for a long time now. The MIUI 7 will be based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, and according to the newly surfaced rumor, the update might get unveiled on August 16th. Interesting enough, the MIUI 6 was announced on August 16th 2014, so this might even be symbolic. Anyhow, please note that this is only a rumor at this point, the company still hasn’t confirmed this or anything fo the sort.
Unfortunately, this leak didn’t really share any details regarding the MIUI 7 update, so we don’t really know what improvements will Xiaomi bring to the table. Bug fixes and stability improvements are expected, of course, but what features will they bring? It’s kind of hard to guess, because MIUI is quite different than stock Android, it doesn’t even have an app drawer, but we’re certain that Xiaomi will include at some new features from Android 5.1 Lollipop.
It’s safe to assume that Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus flagships will be the first handset to received this update, and Mi Note / Mi Note Pro devices will probably follow soon after. Either way, stay tuned for additional info, something will pop up in the coming weeks for sure, presuming this leak is actually accurate, of course.
