ZTE's Axon Phone Gets FCC Approval; To Launch On July 14th

The much talked about Axon Phone has now reportedly been certified by the FCC in the US, paving its way for a nationwide release as per invitations sent out last week for the brand’s launch event which is to be held on the 14th of this month, in New York. The Chinese manufacturer has already set up a website dedicated to the upcoming phone, called axonphone.com to detail some of the features of the upcoming phone. However, not all the specs are listed as yet on the site. Which is perfectly understandable, seeing as the device is yet to be launched and the company wanting to maintain a degree of suspense and anticipation in the run up to the launch event.

As for the hardware specifications of the upcoming smartphone, a lot of the details are still sketchy, but the few things known suggest that the device is slated to come with 4 GB of RAM, a feature which is still missing from a lot of today’s flagship devices, including Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and LG’s G4, both of which only come with 3 GB of memory. The Axon Phone will also ship with Android Lollipop out the box, and feature a dual camera set-up on the rear, which will be teamed-up with a dual LED flash. Talking about dual elements in the phone, it will also feature dual stereo speakers on the front, a style which has been popularized by HTC with its flagship One range of smartphones. As for connectivity options, the device is said to come with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC (Near Field Communication), 4G LTE and a microUSB v2.0 port. The smartphone promises to come with a long battery life, a powerful processor, and will be offered for sale in three different colors – blue, white and gold.

For the uninitiated, Axon Phone is ZTE’s new smartphone brand, being introduced as part of the company’s push to be more visible and have more presence in the high-margin consumer segment, after having spent years manufacturing devices as an OEM for several carriers and brands worldwide. Having already introduced the Nubia sub-brand earlier, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer looks very serious in its quest for a share of the consumers’ mind space in order for them to transition to a consumer-facing electronics major, which brings with it higher margins and more profitability, than what white box vendors typically enjoy.
