Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 AnTuTu Scores Highlight Improvements

A few weeks earlier, Qualcomm announced some new processors including the entry-level Snapdragon 212, and belonging to the mid-range, the Snapdragon 412 and the Snapdragon 616. The latter being the more powerful. Not much has changed on any of the processors announced, besides being clocked at a higher speed compared to their respective previous versions. The Snapdragon 616 is an octa-core processor with four of its cores running at 1.7 GHz and the other four have a speed of 1.2 GHz, both with 64-bit capabilities, it has the X5 LTE modem and the Adreno 405 GPU takes care of the displayed imaging. Now, the performance of this processor was tested on AnTuTu and its scores were compared to its previous iteration, the Snapdragon 615.

The Snapdragon 615 features the same two Cortex-A53 cores clusters with one of them clocking at 1.7 GHz and the other one, running a little slower than in the newer processor at 1 GHz. It seems like a minor difference, but the AnTuTu scores of the devices using both processors are drastically different. Qualcomm may have been able to improve the way they made some of its components, which is reflected on the scores of the new processor, but it is not clear what makes such a difference.

The only phone that carries the Snapdragon 616 is a variant of the Huawei G8, so it’s probably the phone that was used for the test, while it is not clear which phone was used to test the Snapdragon 615 performance. The phone equipped with the Snapdragon 616 got a score of 31,015 points and the device equipped with the older version of the processor received an average of 26,000 points. The performance of the Snapdragon 615 has always been solid, so the new processor should make it even better. Other capabilities available in both processors are support for displays with WQXGA (2560 x 1600) resolution, camera sensors with 21 megapixels and Quick Charge 2.0 technology. We will probably see more devices using this processor as it supports a lot of great technologies and components which could be considered on the high-end and as the prices of some smartphones are lowered, this could be a good option to reduce costs.
