This morning, ASUS took the wraps off of a number of Zenfone smartphones in India. Including the Zenfone Max. Which is basically their answer to all of the other smartphones out here with massive batteries. ASUS managed to throw in a 5,000mAh battery inside. Which is pretty crazy when you consider the Zenfone 2 only had a 3,000mAh battery inside. Additionally, this smartphone can be used as a battery pack. Similar to Huawei’s Ascend Mate 2 from last year. So you are able to charge other phones from your phone. So you can charge your friends phone when their phone dies, as your Zenfone Max likely won’t die for days.
As far as the rest of the phone, it looks like we have a mid-ranger here with a 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 410 processor with 2GB of RAM, a 13MP camera with f/2.0 and a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies. So not exactly a mind blowing phone outside of the battery. However, with it using a Snapdragon 410 processor, it should provide for some pretty amazing battery life, no matter how hard you use the device.
Currently, ASUS has not mentioned pricing or availability. But you can pretty much guarantee that this will be staying in India, it might go to neighboring countries. But it won’t be heading to the US anytime soon. It’ll also be a fairly cheap device, as that’s what the market calls for in India. Overall, it appears to be a pretty nice smartphone, actually. I’d definitely love to see a 5,000mAh battery in my next smartphone, how about the rest of you?
ASUS’ Zenfone line has been pretty popular outside of the US, and even in the US the Zenfone 2 is a pretty popular unlocked device. Getting 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM for $300 is pretty much unheard of. It’ll be interesting to see what ASUS does with their Zenfone line at IFA next month in Berlin. They do have a press conference set for September 2nd, and we’ll be there to see exactly what they have to offer. Hopefully some nice goodies that we’ll all love to get our hands on.
