The Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 smartphones may not have yet started shipping to customers, but both devices have started getting updated firmware available for download. According to a report published on SamMobile, the Mexican version of the Galaxy S6 Edge+, which comes with the model number SM-G928G, has a new official firmware, which comes with build number G928GUBU1AOGJ and carries a build date of July 25th. The Galaxy Note 5 is also said to have a new firmware available online for the Afghan version of the smartphone, which comes with the model number SM-N920C.
The Galaxy S6 Edge+ is one of the two premium phablets launched by Samsung last week in New York, but reports have suggested that Samsung doesn’t intend to launch both phablets in all markets. Key markets like Western Europe and India are reportedly not in the initial list of countries to get the fifth generation flagship in the highly successful lineup from Samsung. Other key markets like the US and China however, are confirmed to receive both devices. The Galaxy S6 Edge, released earlier in the year, did reportedly see a higher-than-expected demand, which has probably made Samsung believe that they can go ahead with this strategy of theirs’.
Coming to the hardware specs of the Galaxy S6 Edge+, the smartphone features a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED QHD (2560 x 1440) display, which curves down on both sides along its length, much like the Galaxy S6 Edge launched earlier in the year. The smartphone is powered by an Exynos 7420 SoC, which is designed and manufactured in-house by Samsung using its 14 nm FinFET process. The chipset comes with an embedded octa-core CPU, with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz each and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at a frequency of 2.1 GHz. The chip also has a Mali-T760MP8 GPU and a Cat.10 LTE modem. The device comes with 4 GB of RAM and either 32 or 64 GB of internal storage depending on the version chosen. A 128 GB version is also said to be in the pipelines for the future. The handset however, does not have a microSD card slot for capacity expansion. The Galaxy S6 Edge+ comes with a 3,000 mAh Li-ion battery and features a 16-megapixel primary camera with OIS and a 5-megapixel front-facing selfie-cam.
