Google is offering its Project Fi customers the chance to swap out their damaged Nexus 6 handsets with a brand new one, for only $100. The company however does mention that the phone must have been bought directly from Google as part of the Project Fi bundle, rather than any other retailer or carrier, for a customer to qualify for this one-time offer. While such offers have been made in the past to Google Play customers, this particular one stands out because of the clarity in its proclamations, unlike the vague offers extended periodically to customers of Google’s Nexus-branded smartphones. While the offer doesn’t quite match up to the free replacement offer that HTC has introduced for its One M9 in North America, the opportunity to get a brand new phone in the unfortunate event of breakage or liquid damage is still quite enticing any way it is looked at.
As for the Nexus 6, the smartphone happens to the sixth generation flagship device designed by Google, and built by Motorola Mobility, now owned by Lenovo. The smartphone was unveiled in late 2014, and replaces the Nexus 5. The smartphone features a 5.96-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, with a pixel density of 493 dpi. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, with a 64-bit quad-core KRAIT 450 CPU clocked at a maximum of 2.7 GHz. The SoC also comes with an embedded Adreno 420 GPU for its graphics processing needs. The smartphone comes in two different variants with an option for either 32 or 64 GB of built-in storage. Both versions however, come with 3 GB of RAM.
Coming to the smartphone’s imaging options, the Nexus 6 comes with a 13-megapixel primary camera with OIS, auto-focus and dual LED flash. The secondary camera on the device meanwhile, comes with a 2-megapixel sensor. The phone comes with a non-removable Li-Po battery rated at 3,220 mAh and was the first device to introduce Android 5.0 Lollipop. The handset supports Qi Wireless charging, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and LTE Cat.6 connectivity. The phone measures 159.3 mm in length, 83 mm in height and is 10.1 mm thick. The handset is also expected to be among the very first devices to get the Android M update OTA, once it goes live later this year.
