Rumor: MediaTek-Powered HTC One M9 To Launch In October

HTC is a really interesting company. They were one of the best standing OEMs a couple of years ago, and now their stocks are incredibly low and they’re having issues turning profits quarter-to-quarter. HTC has released a number of high-end devices this year, the One M9, One M9+, One E9+, Butterfly (2015), etc. Their sales are nowhere near good though, despite the fact they’ve pushed quite a few compelling devices out to the market thus far this year. The company is rumored to be working on a ‘Hero’ (Aero) device which will be launched at the end of this year, but it seems like another high-end handset might arrive later in the year.

As most of you know, the One M9 is HTC’s flagship for 2015. Unfortunately for the company, they’ve opted to include the infamous Snapdragon 810 in here, and considering the amount of negative press that chip has gotten due to alleged overheating claims, HTC’s sales aren’t exactly booming at the moment. Snapdragon 810 certainly isn’t the only factor to blame here, HTC didn’t impress a lot of people when they introduced the One M9, but the sales are even worse than the company has hoped for. Anyhow, according to a new rumor, HTC might release a MediaTek version of the One M9 handset in October this year. The report didn’t exactly mention which chip is HTC planning to use here, but we’re guessing the all-new Helio X20, the deca-core SoC.

The source wasn’t exactly clear on the specs of this phone, but everything they said suggests that the device will sport the same specs as the original, aside from the SoC on the inside. The One M9 features a 5.0-inch 1080 (1920 x 1080) display, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable internal storage. The 20-megapixel shooter is available on the back of the One M9, and the 4-megapixel UltraPixel snapper can be found up front. Android 5.0 Lollipop comes pre-installed on this device, but the 5.1 is already available, so the MediaTek variant will quite probably ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop. This is a 4G LTE handset which is made out of metal, and which sports a 2,840mAh battery. The battery size might differ on the upcoming MediaTek variant of the phone as well, we’ll let you know if we get any new info regarding all that. That being said, take this MediaTek One M9 rumor with a grain of salt, we can’t confirm any of this at the moment.
