After weeks of rumors and leaks, the Moto G (third-gen) is finally here and the direct successor to a smartphone that was considered to be one of the best mid-range devices on the market. It took no time for the third generation Moto G to make its way to Canada via Bell, Virgin, Koodo, Telus, Videotron and Wind Mobile – but there were those still wondering about the regional carriers. Well, that has all changed for the Saskatchewan region and their dominate player, SaskTel, as they have officially released the new Moto G for $229.99 with no contract or $49.99 on a two-year term. It comes in our favorite color…black. If you are holding out for the Moto X Play, SaskTel says it is “coming soon,” which translated means a week or two.
Motorola tweaked the design and hardware somewhat to add even more power to the new Moto G. The Moto G will come with a 5-inch HD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels with 294 pixels-per-inch (PPI). It uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz. The Moto G comes in two variants – 1GB RAM/8GB of storage and 2GB RAM/16GB of storage – the one sold in Canada is the 1GB model. However, the Moto G does come with a microSD card slot to expand the internal memory by 32GB. It has a 13MP main camera with autofocus, dual-tone LED flash and a 5MP front-facing camera (FFC) for social media selfies and video chatting. It also has the usual suspects – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, a microUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. It comes with a non-removable 2470mAh battery and is IPX7 certified against water. It comes with Android Lollipop 5.1 out-of-the-box.
The upcoming Moto X Play will sport a 5.5-inch HD IPS LCD display with the same 720p resolution. The Snapdragon 615 octa-core will process your information with 2GB of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage with expansion up to an additional 128GB via a microSD card slot. The camera jumps to an impressive 21MP, but retains the 5MP FFC. It will have dual-front facing speakers for better sound and a huge 3630mAh battery that should last you at least two days between charges.
