It was announced back on the first of June that Sony’s new midrange was on its way to Canada. Since then we have seen it pop up on Bell, Videotron, Fido SaskTel and Wind and finally today, Rogers is also adding this device to its lineup in the upcoming weeks. According to our source, Rogers will price the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua at $0 on a two-year contract or $300 no-term. The M4 Aqua is a solid device with lots of extra’s for its price range and is worth a closer look.
The M4 Aqua is a great device, much like a smaller version of the Xperia Z model. It carries over the 64-bit processor, waterproofing and you should be able to stretch out almost two days with its 2,400mAh non-removable battery. While it gives up the glass backing of the Xperia Z series for metal, it retains the IP68/68 dust and waterproofing allowing you can take it in shallow water (one meter) for up to 30 minutes. With a name like M4 Aqua, you would expect it to stand up to water.
The Sony Xperia M4 Aqua comes to us with a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x720 pixels and about 294 pixels-per-inch (PPI). It certainly does not stack up to the QHD displays flying around out there but for the price, and size, it is respectable and not far off from the 1080p found on the Xperia Z3+. It is sporting a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with four cores clocked at 1.5GHz and four cores clocked at 1.0GHz. The M4 Aqua packs 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, along with the ability to expand via a microSD card.
Sony did a good job in the camera area as well – a 13MP Sony Exmor RS sensor with autofocus, LED flash and includes its Superior Auto Mode, which takes great low light or when there is a brightly lit background. Sony includes a large 5MP front-facing camera (FFC) for great social media selfies and video chatting. The M4 Aqua also has Sony’s 3D Surround Sound Technology (VPT), Clear Audio, Clear Bass, xLoud Experience and much more. It measures 135.5 x 72.6 x 7.3mm weighs in at 136 grams.
