New phones are coming from Samsung, the company scheduled an event for next week and while the only hint as to what to expect is the new Galaxy Note phablet, there were several leaks that suggest that a larger version of the Galaxy S6 Edge could also make an appearance. While we have a lot of information about those two phones, there are still details that need to be confirmed in the official announcement, one of them being the price that they would sell. According to the leaked specs, these new devices will be very powerful as they would be competing with more high-end smartphones released on the second half of the year.
On the other hand, the current flagship devices from the Galaxy S6 lineup have been reviewed very well and are still considered to be among the best smartphones of the year. The redesigned hardware certainly put the company in the right direction and the internals including a very high-resolution display, the in-house made powerful processor, and the top notch camera provide an experience that is hard to beat even as more devices are being released. Still, the financial results reported by the company suggest that these devices have not been selling as well as the company would have wanted. Let’s remember that some users were disappointed by the lack of a memory card slot and a removable battery.
Perhaps in favor of selling more devices before the new ones arrive, there was a rumor that Samsung could reduce the prices on its current flagships and now that turned out to be true, at least with T-Mobile. On that carrier, there was a $100 cut for the 32 GB and the 64 GB versions of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge, as for the 128 GB version, it’s getting a $200 reduction. So now, those interested could buy a Galaxy S6 starting at $579.99 for the 32 GB version and, strangely enough, $659.99 for the 64 GB and the 128 GB versions, although hardly anyone would choose less memory for the same price. The same goes for the Galaxy S6 Edge, the 32 GB version is now $679.99 and the other two cost $759.99.
