There are many apps on the Google Play store that can be used to manage Twitter accounts, but there is one that has been praised because of the way it uses Material Design guidelines to create an extraordinary experience when using the social network. It’s called Falcon and it started as a widget that let its users control many things without having to launch the app. Then, Falcon Pro for Twitter was created a little after the official Twitter client was launched. Despite some issues with the token system with Twitter, it still managed to be successful.
Then Falcon Pro 3 was created, built from scratch and optimized for Android Lollipop. It had the same successful story as it managed to get installed in 60,000 devices in just 20 days. Its navigation is based on several columns displaying different information. Multiple accounts are supported to create messages from within the app. The side panel works as a notification menu with several interactions. All of this functionality in a very well designed app featuring a dark theme with smooth transitions and beautiful typography. There are still some features missing, like the ability to respond to direct messages or a proper widget, but they could potentially be added in the future.
Now, the developer that created all of the Falcon apps will be part of the team that develop the official Twitter app for Android. Joaquim Verg¨s shared this information on his Twitter account and he also stated that he won’t leave Falcon behind, and he added that it would be a good place to experiment now that he has the support of the company. Twitter must have hired him because they liked his vision of the social network, so probably some design elements or functionality of the Falcon apps will make it through the official app. Verg¨s mentioned that he got tired of third party limitations so what he wants for the official app is to integrate a modern UI into an app with a full API. It’s nice to see the big companies looking for talented developers that may have interesting ideas to be included in future releases.
