The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are two of the newest devices to come from Samsung. Of course, there are newer Samsung devices with the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. However, the twin Galaxy S6 devices which were unveiled back in March are still current flagship models. That said, March is starting to feel like a long time ago and probably even more so if you own either of these devices and are on Verizon. This is largely because the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge on Verizon have yet to see their update to Android 5.1.1. That is, until today.
It now looks like Verizon are either about to start pushing out the update or may have already began doing so as the paperwork for the update is now live on the Verizon support site. As a result and in addition to all the more common aspects which come with an update to Android 5.1.1, the upgrade listing from Verizon does list a number of new features which are being included in the update. These include the compatibility for Caller Name ID with those who are using Advanced Calling on their device. Not to mention, the listing also details a fix which is included for those who may have been randomly experiencing a “Contacts has stopped” prompt.
Other fixes noted in the listing, include a fix for a ‘no service’ prompt when travelling to Puerto Rico and a fix where Mobile Data icons were disappearing from the Quick Settings menu. This last issue was a factor that was noted troubling the Galaxy S6/Edge devices as far back as June. In fact, Samsung did release a fix for this in an app form, although, it now looks as though this update comes with the fix built-in. Last up, the update will also include some minor improvements to the predictive text and auto-correction in the native keyboard application. As always, these are pushed out as a staggered OTA update and therefore, it may be some time before you receive the update physically land on your device.
