Hands-On With The Meizu PRO 5

Meizu has unveiled their PRO 5 flagship in China recently. This is the company’s newest flagship handset, and as expected, it’s a premium offering for sure. Meizu has announced two variants of this phone, the 3GB RAM variant which comes with 32GB of internal storage, and the 4GB RAM model which is coupled with 64GB of native storage. We’ll talk more about the specifications of this device in a minute, but let’s first talk about its design first. As you might already know, we were present at the unveiling of this phablet in China, which gave us a chance to take a closer look at the device.

If you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll notice there are quite a few hands-on images with this device in there. The Meizu PRO 5 is made out of aluminum magnesium alloy, as expected, and it sports a unibody design. Its battery is non-removable, but considering its specs and software, battery life shouldn’t be such an issues, plus the company has included mCharge 2.0 quick charging solution here. The phone sports a physical home button below the display which doubles as a fingerprint scanner, and both the power / lock and volume rocker buttons are located on the right-hand side of this phone. If we take a look at the back of this device, you’ll notice there’s a slightly protruding camera located there. We’re looking at a 21-megapixel snapper (Sony’s IMX230 sensor) here, below which you’ll find a dual-LED, dual tone flash and a Laser Autofocus. This device’s loudspeaker is located on the bottom of the device, and in between speaker grills you’ll notice a Type-C USB 3.0 port. All in all, Meizu PRO 5 is a very well-built device which sports very thin side bezels. The lower-end variant of this device costs 2,800 Yuan ($439) in China, and the higher-end model is priced at 3,100 Yuan ($490). The phone will go on sale October 12th in China, just in case you’re interested. Another thing to keep in mind here is the fact this handset won’t ship with Flyme 5 pre-installed, Meizu’s new OS will come later on.
