Right now in the Android world, the industry is at fever pitch. On the back of IFA and all the announcements which came from the event, Nexus talk is high up on the agenda. This is a common occurrence roundabout this time of year and this year is proving to be no exception with talk of not one, but two Nexus devices. One will be made by LG and one will be made by Huawei. While the LG has received what seems like a heightened level of attention compared to the Huawei Nexus, it is actually the Huawei Nexus which is expected to be the flagship device of the two and come sporting all the major specs and features. While these are still all to be confirmed at the launch, there has been a good deal of leaked information come though. If you have missed it so far, then here is a quick recap on what we have heard about the Huawei Nexus.
Display
In terms of the display, it is highly expected that the Huawei Nexus will come with a much bigger display than the LG variant. In fact, this one looks firmly set to be phablet-sized with a 5.5-inch display on offer. Some rumors however, are suggesting that the display could be even bigger and come in at the 5.7-inch market. Either way, it does seem it will be a big one. In terms of the resolution, this is also a highly debated point. Most rumors suggest this will be a QHD display and keeping in line with being a more premium handset. As such the consensus is there will be a 2560 x 1440 resolution on offer.
Inside
Like many aspects of the Huawei Nexus, the details of what will come inside seem to be far more debated than with the LG alternative. In fact, when it comes to the specs, there has been a number of discrepancies. As mentioned already, there is some debate over the display size and resolution. However, there is also some debate over the processor too. Some rumors have suggested that the Huawei Nexus will come sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 inside. However, as this is the next-gen unreleased processor from Qualcomm, it does seem unlikely to be the case. The 820 is not expected to begin shipping on devices until early in 2016 with many rumors claiming Xiaomi Mi 5 likely to be the first sporting the chip. As such, the 820 does not seem to be time compatible with the Huawei Nexus release schedule. Of course, there is also the other processor rumor which states the Huawei Nexus is likely to come with Huawei’s own Kirin 950 processor. This one makes the most sense giving the late arrival of the 820 and the issues with the 810. Although, once again, doubt arises as it is unclear whether Google would be happy to bring the device to market with a processor that many users might not be so familiar with.
As such, it does seem increasingly likely that the Huawei Nexus will come sporting Qualcomm’s current flagship processor, the Snapdragon 810. This has become quite the cursed processor and it unclear how much Google and Huawei would want to bank on the 810 for their flagship device. However, the expected Huawei Nexus release schedule does fit the 810 rumors much neater. Not to mention, the most recent report details the Huawei Nexus being benchmarked on GeekBench and clearly indicate that the processor will indeed by the Snapdragon 810.
In terms of the rest of the specs, it has been noted that the Huawei Nexus will come sporting a 3,500 mAh battery. This one seems to make logical sense as the Huawei Nexus will come sporting a bigger body and 3,500 seems the right number for them to go with. Not to mention, advanced charging is likely to be a key feature too. It was also noted that the same recent report which confirms the inclusion of the Snapdragon 810 also notes the RAM count is set at 3GB.
Additional Features
One of the most consistent rumors of the Huawei Nexus is that it will come sporting a fingerprint scanner. In fact, this is something which is largely now being taken for granted thanks to Huawei’s experience of bringing fingerprint scanners to a number of their most recent devices. However, what remains unknown is how functional the sensor will be. Huawei has already released a couple of devices where the sensor comes with multiple gesture support and this could quite easily be another feature introduced on their take on the Nexus. Not to mention, with Google’s clear emphasis on Android Pay coming through in the near future, it seems almost a given that any Nexus device being released this year will come sporting a fingerprint sensor and making use of Android Pay.
It has also been rumored that the Huawei Nexus will come sporting a Type-C USB port for faster data transfer. This also seems to be another aspect which is being taken for granted for both Nexus devices. It does seem to be the connector of choice moving forward and therefore, seems likely to be in effect on both Nexus devices inbound this year.
Camera
With this expected to be the flagship Nexus device this year, it would be hoped to see a boost in the camera department compared to the LG option, although, in truth, next to nothing is known about what to expect from the cameras on the Huawei Nexus. This is one of the lesser known aspects of the device with no real firm details coming through. Early reports suggested a 21-megapixel rear camera might be on offer, which would make sense seeing the LG Nexus is supposed to come boasting a 13-megapixel rear camera. Although, this is not even a rumor that has been repeated since. Likewise nothing has been revealed about the front-facing camera either.
Availability
Consistent with the rumors being heard for the LG Nexus 5X, the Huawei Nexus does seem to be expected to be unveiled on September 29th at an event being held by Google. However, rumors are going even further than the unveil date with the current suggestions being the Huawei Nexus will be available to pre-order from October 13th. Exactly two weeks following the unveil date. That said, while we have heard some rumors that the the LG Nexus 5 will cost $400, there is currently very little to go on when it comes to the price of the Huawei Nexus. Although, it does seem to be largely agreed that the Huawei Nexus will cost more than the LG variant and will likely be priced in a similar vein to the Nexus 6 from last year.
