This puts the preorder date in line with the Apple iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, which are projected to match the sales patterns of previous iterations. In short, its sales numbers are likely to look similar to how bottled water would sell in a desert. This means Google has their work cut out for them. To make its mark, this newest member of the Nexus family would have to heat up the Indian market like few others have ever been able to.
In a market rife with high-end mid-rangers and brand-name power, such as the Asus Zenfone 2, Moto X Pure Edition and Samsung Galaxy S6, Apple commands respect and sales with any device it releases. the Nexus 6P, leaked, anticipated and hyped as it has been, may actually stand a chance, but only if Google and whatever retailers it may choose to partner with take the right approach to it. The usual suspects such as Flipkart have remained silent for the time being.
Despite walking themselves into a tough marketing position, Google may just be able to carve out a decent niche, even if victory in the scenario seems a little far-fetched. The Nexus 6P, coming in at $499 USD for the 32GB variant in most territories, which equates to around 39,999 Indian Rupees, seems to be a real winner.
For those unfamiliar with its specs, it’s a metal-bodied device shipping with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and the newest revision of the Snapdragon 810 processor, said to correct previous iterations’ notorious overheating issues. 3GB of RAM is also on board, along with a 12.3MP camera accented by an impressive 8MP selfie snapper. On the storage front, rumors of a MicroSD slot have proven untrue, but the device offers 32GB, 64GB and 128GB options. A 3,450 mAh battery keeps the action going, while a fingerprint sensor and a futuristic USB Type-C port round out the package.
For the price, the value is phenomenal and in a market like India, that just may prove to be enough to trump the iPhone 6S’s top-tier specs. Squeezing in a win against the Apple titan may prove a fruitless endeavor, terrible puns aside, but a significant portion of buyers who would otherwise gravitate to lower-cost offerings like the aforementioned Moto X Pure or its lower-specced Play variant may just find something to love in the Nexus 6P.
