After weeks and weeks of leaks, rumors, and official teasers, Meizu has finally announced their new flagship, the Meizu PRO 5. This smartphone is a powerhouse, no matter which way you look at it, and it does resemble its predecessors a whole lot. The Meizu PRO 5 is made out of aluminum magnesium alloy, while it features a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display and comes in both 3GB of RAM (32GB of internal storage) and 4GB of RAM variants (64GB of native storage). The device also sports a 21-megapixel (Sony’s IMX230) camera on its back, and packs in a fingerprint scanner and the Type-C USB 3.0 port. That being said, let’s take a look at some specific parts of this Meizu PRO 5 package. This handset, like many other Meizu-branded devices, comes equipped with all sorts of ‘features’. We’re not talking about software features here, but hardware stuff that Meizu included here. Let’s kick things off by talking about the device’s display. as already mentioned, this device features Samsung’s 5.7-inch Super AMOLED panel, which is not something many smartphones can say. Aside from Samsung and Meizu, there are a handful of other smartphone OEMs which use AMOLED panels. This is not a QHD display, but that might not be a bad thing, many people actually think 1080p is plenty enough for a smartphone, and will have a positive effect on battery life, that’s for sure.
Speaking of battery life, Meizu PRO 5 packs in a 3,050mAh unit, which is a solid battery, but if you take into account the fullHD display and the processor Meizu packed in here, Samsung’s 14nm Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core SoC, Meizu PRO 5 should offer great battery life. The device also comes equipped with the company’s mCharge 2.0, which basically means you’ll be able to charge up this device from 0 to 65% in just 30 minutes. The Type-C USB 3.0 is yet another future proof part of this device worth mentioning, and it’s located on the bottom of the PRO 5.
Now, many of you probably use your smartphones as your dedicated camera shutters, well, PRO 5 comes equipped with a 21-megapixel camera (Sony’s IMX230 sensor), which is capable to take a picture in 0.7 seconds according to the company. Meizu did a really great job in the camera department in the past, so we’re expecting this shooter to provide great shots as well. The camera has a built-in ISP, f/2.2 aperture, and a sapphire lens on top in order to protect it from scratches and that sort of thing. The UFS 2.0 flash memory is included here as well, which is another thing to note here.
The Meizu PRO 5 sports a physical home button below the display, or as Meizu calls it, ‘mBack’ button. This physical home button actually doubles as a fingerprint scanner, and as Meizu consumers are already used to, it acts as both the physical home button and capacitive back button. You can further customize it if you want, but all in all, it’s a very useful part of this smartphone. The last part of this device we’ll talk about here is its audio component. The PRO 5 comes equipped with the ES9018 and OPA1612 audio chips which deliver Hi-Fi 2.0 sounds on this smartphone. These chips are able to provide a dynamic range of 123dB, which is quite impressive for a smartphone.
