Meizu has announced four smartphones this year, the Meizu M1, M2, M2 Note and their flagship, the MX5. All of these devices sport solid build, are very capable and affordable. Meizu is one of the fastest growing smartphone OEMs, not only in China, but the world. The company managed to sell 2.8 million devices in August, and they sold 8.9 million smartphones in the first half of the year. Now, this might not seem much compared to OEMs like Samsung, but the 8.9 million number represents a 540% sales increase for Meizu (compared to last year), which is staggering.
That being said, Meizu’s VP, Li Nan, has confirmed that the company won’t be launching the MX5 Pro this year, in fact, he said that the ‘MX Pro’ line altogether is history. Meizu’s VP has also stated that the company is working on a new, premium flagship, and even though he didn’t share the exact timeframe for its launch, some rumors suggested that it might arrive in January. Well, it seems this handset will land sooner than we thought. According to our source, the new Meizu flagship will be launched later this month. We don’t really have any specifics at the moment, but keep in mind that the source is quite reliable, and you can expect to see this device before the end of September.
Now, we’ve already seen a high-end Meizu device leak recently, the Meizu NIUX handset. According to AnTuTu listing, and the leaked source code, this will be a really beastly smartphone. Based on the info we have thus far, this smartphone will sport a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, 3 or 4GB of RAM (2 variants might be available) and will be powered by Samsung’s 14nm Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core SoC. The phone will allegedly feature a 21-megapixel camera on its back, and Android 5.1 Lollipop will come pre-installed here with Meizu’s Flyme 5.0 UI on top of Google’s operating system. You can also expect this smartphone to be made out of metal, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera was also mentioned in AnTuTu’s listing. There you have it folks, it seems like Meizu is getting ready to launch yet another really compelling smartphone. Stay tuned for more details, we’ll report back as soon as additional info surfaces.
