Meizu CEO: We've Sold 2.89 Million Handsets Last Month

Meizu has been under the spotlight lately, mainly because the company released their new flagship yesterday, the Meizu PRO 5. This smartphone is packed with high-end specs including the Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core SoC, 5.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, 21-megapixel camera, fingerprint scanner, aluminum magnesium build, etc. The device will ship in 3 and 4GB RAM variants, and will be available soon in China. That being said, this China-based company is one of the fastest-growing smartphone manufacturers in the world. They’ve managed to sell 8.9 million smartphones in the first half of this year, which represents a 540% increase for this company compared to the same period last year.

Meizu tends to release their financial results on a regular basis, and they did the same this time as well. Meizu has announced their sales results for last month, and according to the company. they’ve managed to sell 2.89 million devices in August. This is actually quite impressive considering they shipped out 2 million smartphones back in March, it seems like the company keeps on increasing their sales each month. Meizu still doesn’t have the production capacity some of the biggest smartphone OEMs out there have, but this China-based company is definitely getting there. They’ve been investing in this sector for quite some time now, and it seems like it’s paying off already.

It will definitely be interesting to see how many smartphones will Meizu sell by the end of this year, but it’s safe to say that they’ll beat last year’s results because they’ve been doing a whole lot better this time around. The company has announced two flagship devices in the last three months (MX5 and PRO 5), so we probably won’t see another premium offering by Meizu before 2016, but it is possible that they intend to release an entry-level or mid-range device before the end of this year. As a reminder, the Meizu M1 Note was announced back in December last year, so who knows, if they intend to stick to the release schedule and release ‘m Note’ devices every 6 month, another such phone will definitely arrive this year. Anyhow, stay tuned, we’ll report back as soon as more info surfaces.
