Meizu is currently one of the fastest-growing smartphone manufacturers in the world. This China-based company is still not amongst the top 5 Chinese smartphone OEMs as far as sheer sales numbers go, but the company managed to sell 540% more devices in the first half of this year compared to last year, which is quite impressive. Meizu manufactures really well-built, and well-specced devices which don’t cost all that much, which is certainly one factor in the company’s success. That being said, this company is currently selling their devices in Asia only, and we were wondering when will that change. Well, that might happen soon, read on.
The company has published a rather interesting post on their official Weibo account recently, teasing expansion to a number of new (non-Asian) countries. According to the teaser image on the company’s Weibo account, Meizu will announce the availability of their devices in Russia, Israel, France, Italy, Malaysia, Czech Republic and Ukraine. India is also listed, but Meizu is already selling their phones in that Asian country, so why is it listed? Well, this list actually ties in with Meizu’s upcoming event, and the announcement of their Meizu Pro 5 flagship. It seems like the company is trying to tell us where will this handset be available, outside of China, of course.
Speaking of the event, Meizu has scheduled a press conference for September 23rd where they’ll announce the much rumored Meizu Pro 5 handset, also known as the Meizu ‘NIUX’. According to previous info, this smartphone will arrive in both 3 and 4GB RAM variants. The phone will sport a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display and 32GB of internal storage. Samsung’s Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor is said to fuel this smartphone, and a 21-megapixel shooter will be located on its back. The Meizu Pro 5 will almost certainly going to be made out of metal, and you can also expect it to offer 4G LTE connectivity. Meizu’s ‘mBack’ physical home button will probably be included here as well, and same can be said about the fingerprint scanner which will be built into the button itself.
That is more or less it, it seems like Meizu will be announcing expansion plans on September 23rd along with their new flagship. It is also worth mentioning that we’ll be reporting live from Meizu’s event in China, so stay tuned for more info.
