Meizu has been under the spotlight lately, mainly because the company intends to release their new flagship smartphone on September 23rd, and we’ve seen quite a few rumors, leaks and official confirmations in the last week or two. The company’s Meizu ‘NIUX’ device surfaced on AnTuTu in both 3 and 4GB variants, and the company’s co-founder confirmed that the device will sport a 5.5-inch 1080p display. This smartphone will be Meizu’s second flagship this year, the company has unveiled the MX5 about three months ago. Anyhow, the upcoming device will be called ‘Meizu Pro 5’, which was confirmed by the company’s VP, Li Nan.
We’ll talk more about the leaked specs of this device, but before we do, let’s first talk about the new version of Meizu’s Android skin, Flyme. The Android 5.1 Lollipop-based Flyme 5 was mentioned in AnTuTu as the version of Flyme to ship with Meizu Pro 5. We didn’t have any official news about Flyme 5, well, until now. The Chief Design Architect of Flyme, Yan Yang, has confirmed via his Weibo page that the Flyme 5 OS will come pre-installed on Meizu Pro 5. He mentioned that the company intended to release Flyme 5 separately, but that they’re too busy to do something like that, so they’ll just reveal both the Pro 5 handset, and Flyme 5 on September 23rd.
The Chief Architect of Flyme didn’t leave us empty-handed here, he released a number of screenshots showcasing Flyme 5, so if you’re interested to see those, check out the gallery down below. The Flyme 5 actually resembles the Flyme 4.5 quite a lot, but there are some subtle design changes this time around. As far as the general functionality of the OS goes, we still don’t have any info on that, but Meizu will sure squash a ton of bugs, optimize the UI and also introduce some new features.
That being said, let’s take a look at the probable specs of the upcoming Meizu Pro 5 handset. The Meizu Pro 5 will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, that has been officially confirmed. The AnTuTu benchmark also said that the phone will ship in two variants, the 3 and 4GB variants. Both of these models will ship with 32GB of internal storage it seems, and the device will feature a 21-megapixel shooter on its back. The 5-megapixel camera will be available on the phone’s front side, and Android 5.1 Lollipop will come pre-installed here with Flyme 5 on top of it, as we’ve already mentioned above. This device will be made out of metal, and 4G LTE connectivity will be a part of this package as well.
