Meizu has announced four smartphones this year, and the Meizu MX5 is the most powerful one out of the bunch. That being said, the company was expected to announce the MX5 Pro handset later this year, as a successor to the MX4 Pro. This fact was refuted by the company’s VP, Li Nan, a while back. He said that Meizu won’t be releasing the MX5 Pro, and is instead working on a new premium device. We didn’t have any info at the time, but the Meizu ‘NIUX’ handset has been leaking all over the place recently, and the company has announced that they’ll hold a press conference on September 23rd. Our source has confirmed prior to this announcement that the company plans to announce a new flagship before the end of September.
With that said, the alleged Meizu Pro 5 retail packaging surfaced yesterday, and everyone assumed that this is the name of Meizu’s new flagship. Well, the aforementioned Vice President of the company went official on Weibo (Chinese social network) and confirmed this fact by posting three additional images of the retail packaging for this smartphone. The Meizu Pro 5 will be announced on September 23rd, and we will be a the scene in order to let you know what’s going on and give you an early hands-on look at Meizu’s new flagship.
Speaking of which, we might even know the specifications of this phone, presuming earlier leaks are accurate, of course. The Meizu Pro 5 is expected to sport a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 3/4GB of RAM and 32/64GB of internal storage. The rumors claim that both these variants of Pro 5 will be announced, but we’ll see. The phone is expected to ship with Samsung’s Exynos 7420 14nm 64-bit octa-core processor you’ll find in all of Samsung’s flagships this year. The 21-megpaixel camera is said to be located on the back of the Pro 5, and the device will probably ship out with Android 5.1 Lollipop with Meizu’s Flyme OS installed on top of it. You can also expect this device to be made out of metal, sport 4G LTE connectivity, and a fingerprint scanner will probably also be included here.
