Nextbit Announces Official Verizon Model Of The Robin

Back at the beginning of this month, Nextbit announced their first smartphone called Robin, a cloud first device boasting to help make sure you never run out of storage space. The Robin initially was announced as a GSM only unlocked device, which meant it was usable on any number of GSM-based networks like AT&T and T-Mobile, Cricket now that they’re owned and operated by AT&T and using their network, and basically any GSM network. There had been rumors though that Nextbit may be looking to unleash a CDMA version of the Robin that could be used on Sprint and Verizon Wireless networks but nothing had been confirmed up until now.

As of today Nextbit has answered the call of many of their interested kickstarter backers and has announced a CDMA version that will be exclusively compatible with Verizon. This will be a U.S./Verizon only model so it won’t work on Sprint, and those interested will be able to place their purchases for the Robin Verizon model starting tomorrow, September 18th. The Verizon model phone will end up costing the same amount as the GSM model which is $349, although Nextbit states that they will have special pricing being offered to the first 300 backers which brings the phone cost down to $299, saving the lucky individuals $50.

Those who are looking to buy the Verizon model will be able to do so on the Kickstarter page beginning at 10am PT tomorrow morning. In addition to the announcement on the Verizon Wireless model, Nextbit is holding an official color contest where they have their Kickstarter backers come up with ideas for a new color option for the Kickstarter-only model. After going through the responses Nextbit will select the five most popular and hold a formal vote to choose the winning color. This contest starts at 11am PT today, so anyone interested can head to the kickstarter page to post their ideas. The Verizon model Robin will carry the same exact specs as the GSM model, which comes with 32GB of internal storage and 100GB of cloud storage, a 5MP front camera and 13MP rear camera with phase detection auto focus, 3GB of RAM, dual front facing stereo speakers, NFC, fingerprint sensor, and it’s powered by a Snapdragon 808 processor and 2680mAh battery. It also uses USB Type-C and supports quick charge.
