While it may seem difficult to keep up with, there has been an absolute flurry of information and reports coming out this morning about the two latest Nexus devices which are due to be unveiled tomorrow. While most of them have brought news which many would like to know, like the expected prices, availability and when pre-orders will begin. It has not all been the best of news. As well as the various reports on what you can expect from the Huawei Nexus 6P and the LG Nexus 5X, there has also been a number of reports on some of the features that you should now expect to not be included on the two devices.
The first came through earlier today when a report looked to confirm that neither device will come equipped with a microSD card slot and as such there was no ability to expand beyond the initial storage level set at the time of purchase. This was then followed by the news that neither device will offer the ability to make use of wireless charging and instead will be reliant on features like Doze and quicker wired charging to keep the battery good and ready to go.
Well, following on from those reports and the latest feature which is said to be not included on the Nexus 6P or the Nexus 5X is optical image stabilization (OIS) This will be disappointing to those who make use of their mobile cameras as OIS is a great way to help steady your images and looks to reduce shaking or camera movement as much as possible. Not to mention, this is another feature which is typical offered with most devices, including previous Nexus devices.
In terms of why Google has opted to exclude OIS from both Nexus devices, there is no confirmation on the reason. Although, the consensus seems to be that this was likely a cost-cutting measure to help keep the cost of both the Nexus 6P and 5X at a lower enough price. Irrespective and whatever the reason, if you were hoping for OIS on the next Nexus devices, then it looks like that might not be an option.
