Right now, the Android world is right at the peak of its annual Nexus anticipation. The company is hosting their annual event tomorrow and it is highly expected that not one, but two new Nexus devices will be unveiled. As a result, the last few days has seen the rumors and speculation intensified beyond belief, with a number of ‘confirmations’ coming through detailing what can be expected from the Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X.
In fact, the latest only came through this morning when a reported FCC filing for the Huawei Nexus 6P was spotted. While the FCC filing did show that the Huawei Nexus 6P will offer support for Project Fi, what was the big headline aspect was the Nexus 6P would come with a microSD card slot for those looking to expand on the already included internal storage levels on offer. This is good news for those who are storage hungry but did seem to be contradictory to the more recent Nexus smartphones and also the industry in general, which seems to be stepping away from the notion of expandable storage.
Well, the latest on this point is that Android Police is now reporting that the Nexus 6P (like the LG Nexus 5X) will not actually come with microSD capabilities. This information is said to come from “multiple sources” that neither Nexus smartphone will offer a microSD card slot. In all honestly, this does seem to make much more sense, as it has been widely reported that both Nexus phones will be available in a variety of storage options at the point of purchase. These consist of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB (at least for the Nexus 6P). Therefore, those looking for greater local storage will be able to buy the level that is best suited for their needs and omits the need for an option to expand. According to the report, this is exactly Google’s thinking on the matter and why they have opted for the lack of storage. This, combined with the emphasis on cloud storage. As such, it does now seem that the Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X will both come without microSD card support.
