Microsoft recently launched Office 2016 following the launch of Windows 10 from earlier this Summer, so it seems like the perfect time for them to launch a brand-new Android app which works in tandem with Office 2016. It’s called Outlook Groups, and in a way is a companion application to the Office 2016 software. It works with an Office 365 account whether it’s for work or for school, and with it, users can communicate with anyone who they have has an Outlook contact making it perfect for conversations about projects or, well, work stuff. It’s much more than just a communication app though, and is really better thought of a productivity tool since it can help users become more productive with other users.
Alongside the ability to simply communicate users can also collaborate with other members on school and work projects which is part of what can make this such a powerful productivity tool for those who frequently use Office 365 and will be using Office 2016 quite a bit. The app also allows users to share photos, share and compare notes, and much more. The communication part of things is handled basically as a group email. As part of this users are able to mention others using the “@” symbol and they can even like posts from others.
Sharing and comparing notes uses OneNote which should come as no surprise since this is a Microsoft app and it was most likely to utilize another Microsoft tool. Outlook Groups also has a built-in functionality to view office documents so if you have a doc or a spreadsheet to go over with some of your colleagues, this app should make it possible rather easily especially if you’re already using to communicate in group emails. Outlook Groups supports documents, excel spreadsheets, and powerpoint presentations so no matter what the Office file is you can share it with other group members. You’ll need an Office 365 subscription to use the app which cause some to look elsewhere, but if you and your team are already subscribing to the Microsoft service, the app itself doesn’t cost a thing and could end being an invaluable tool to have installed on your device.
