Rumor: LG To Launch New 'Sporty' Watch & Possibly This Month

If this year’s IFA event (and the year in general) has anything to go by, then this is the year of the smartwatches. There has already been a ton of coverage on smartwatches and it still does not look set to end anytime soon. In fact, within the next week, it is pretty much confirmed that Samsung will be launching their next generation Gear S smartwatch, the Gear S2 and Motorola will also be launching their next generation Moto 360 smartwatch on September 8th. That said, they are not the only players in the smartwatch wars and LG has already brought to market a number of options and variants including the most recently announced $12,000 LG Urbane Luxe. Well, the latest coming through regarding LG, is that they are now rumored to be preparing to launch another new watch.

The details on this watch are very sketchy and this largely remains a rumor for now with the information coming to Android Police by a source. That said, they do advise they have been provided information on this particular watch from “two trusted sources“, which does lend further support to the rumor being true. In terms of the watch, it is being suggested that it will adopt the same circular style as the most recent LG watches. However, unlike the recent offerings, this one will come sporting a three button layout. The menu button will still be in effect, but two additional buttons will now also be included. In fact, much of the details suggest the watch will be a further refinement of what LG has been offering already, with the new watch adopting a polished metallic body, exposed lugs, metallic bezels and a rubber strap (possibly silicone). Android police point out that it is unclear what level of customization will be available with this new watch and therefore, the rubber strap seems to be only variant known about for now with the possibility of further customization still open. That said, the common thread being noted is that it will look and feel a little more ‘sporty’ than the previous LG watches so far.

As with a rumor of this magnitude, details on pricing and availability are virtually non-existent, although, it is being suggested that the watch could launch as early as this month. Whether that means a showing at IFA or a later dedicated event remains to be seen for now although it is being said, it is more likely to be toward the end of the month, if in this month at all.
