Rumor: Sony To Release Xperia Z5 Compact Premium In Japan

Sony made one of the biggest announcement at this year’s IFA, the company has unveiled their new line of flagship devices, the Xperia Z5 handset. This Japan-based smartphone OEM has unveiled the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 Compact. The Xperia Z5 Premium sports a monstrous 4K display, and is the highest-end device out of the bunch. The Xperia Z5 is the company’s 5.5-inch flagship, and the Z5 Compact, is as its name says, a compact handset with a 4.6-inch display which sports really powerful specifications as well.

The company has announced these three devices a couple of days ago, and a new rumor suggests that the company will introduce yet another Xperia Z5 model which will be exclusive to Japan. This handset will reportedly going to be called Xperia Z5 Compact Premium, and it will, interestingly enough, sport 4GB of RAM like the Xperia Z5 Premium (hence the name). This handset will feature a 4.6-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with a 2,900mAh battery. In comparison, the Xperia Z5 Compact comes with a 4.6-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display, 2GB of RAM and a 2,700mAh battery unit.

The report also claims that this device will be available through NTT DoCoMo (Japanese carrier), but we still don’t know the specifics, like the pricing for examples. One thing is for sure, this handset will sport a premium price, and as soon as Sony goes official and announces this device, we’ll report back with the specifics. All we have to go on for the moment is the image provided above that leaked, which will show you the design of this device which sports NTT DoCoMo’s logo below the display.

Sony tends to release such region exclusive devices in Japan, so don’t expect this thing to be available elsewhere, though that’s always a possibility. It seems a bit odd Sony opted not to introduce this handset globally considering it’s basically a more powerful variant of the Xperia Z5 Compact they introduced. Either way, Sony isn’t doing all that well as far as smartphone sales go, and the company is hoping their newly-released flagships will help them change that.
