Samsung launched its Galaxy Tab S2 earlier this year as a successor to its Galaxy Tab S devices, which were launched last year. While the Tab S2 comes in two different screen sizes, the 8-inch and 9.7-inch displays of the two Tab S2 models are comparatively on the smaller side, next to traditional laptops. Samsung is now apparently looking to bridge that divide with its latest tablet offering. If reports are to be believed, the South Korean company is prepping to launch a whole new tablet, which will reportedly come with an 18.4-inch 1080p TFT LCD display panel. The device, internally codenamed ‘Tahoe’, and sporting the model number SM-T670, will reportedly be commercially launched as the Samsung Galaxy View. Given its rather expansive dimensions, the Galaxy View is believed to be positioned as an entertainment-oriented tablet designed for living rooms, and also as a device meant for presentations etc. at schools, colleges and offices.
Latest news coming out of South Korea now says that the tablet has been certified by the Radio Research Agency (RRA), which is said to be the country’s equivalent of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US. While the reported ‘Galaxy View’ nomenclature is nowhere to be found on the RRA’s documents, the certification mentions the model number SM-T670, which has long been associated with the aforementioned tablet ever since news about the device started leaking online. Today’s news however, still does not indicate anything about the probable release date of the much-rumored gadget.
While Samsung’s upcoming tablet was already certified by Bluetooth SIG earlier this month, some of the alleged hardware specs of the device were leaked online even earlier. From what we’ve seen, the new large-screened tablet from Samsung will feature an 18.4-inch Full HD TFT LCD display panel, as already mentioned earlier. The tablet is believed to be powered by an Exynos 7580 chipset, meaning 64-bit octa-core processing power for the upcoming gadget. The device is said to come with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by way of a microSD card of up to 128 GB capacity. The Galaxy View will reportedly carry a 5,700 mAh battery, have a thickness of 11.9 mm and run Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, presumably with the latest version of TouchWiz UI on top.
