Skype is constantly adding more services to make communications easier than ever for their millions of users. Recently, they created an interface to be used with any browser and they also updated their mobile app to a whole new interface based on the current Android design language guidelines, plus a new feature here and there. They have even included little bits of movies to be included in conversations as responses, which they named Mojis. Now, the mobile app is being updated to version 6.4 and this time it’s bringing with it support for Android Wear, Google’s platform for smartwatches.
Some of the devices mentioned by the Skype team that will support this app are the Moto 360, Huawei Watch, LG Watch Urbane, and the Asus ZenWatch, so it is safe to assume that the app will work with most smartwatches that use Android Wear. Unless they are referring to the second generation of Moto 360 and ZenWatch, then, the app would work with the newer devices only, but that sounds unlikely.
Anyway, as for the update, users will get notifications and read their messages from their contacts right from their smartwatch. They will also be able to reply to those messages using their voice, as the app will transform it into text, otherwise, they could choose one of the predetermined reply phrases. If they want to use an emoji to emphasize their reply, they could just draw it on the tiny screen, just like in any other app after a recent (and quite big) Android Wear update. Finally, users will be able to manage calls from their wrists, they can now see the number or contact that is calling and the picture when it’s available and decide whether to decline it if it’s not the right time to answer or take the call and use the integrated microphone, headphones, Bluetooth headset or speaker to communicate. Some options will appear on the smartwatch during a call such as mute, hang up, pause, or switch between calls. The update is available on the Play Store now and therefore, will likely be updated automatically for you soon enough.
